I am now really pleased to say that The Family History Poetry Film Project is officially launched on Liberated Words https://liberatedwords.com/2021/08/02/family-history-project with a selection of family history poetry films alongside process notes. Some were screened as part of Reconnections for LYRA poetry festival in April, 2021; others are at the forefront of an ongoing collection.
I have chosen this theme as I am working on my own poetry, poetry film and family history project – Tree – which I began researching over 25 years ago. I would like to share other people’s family history poetry films on this site. I am happy to receive both creative content such as poetry films and poems, but also background material, such as notes on research approach, and process, where appropriate. Here are some examples of leading poetry filmmakers’ work in this genre. To date I have an international cross-section with poets and filmmakers including: Houston-based Americans – writer, performer and filmmaker Margo Stutts Toombs and Dr Germaine Burchard Welch with From Father to Daughter: The Cuba Film; Spanish filmmaker Eduardo Yagüe and British translator and poet Jean Morris with Cries and Whispers and Australian filmmaker Marie Craven with Rodeo Days.
