There are numerous screenings and invited curations to see, and I wish I could have been there myself. I went in 2012 and gave a talk, so I know how special the festival can be. If you take a look at their website you can travel back to the beginning of this century! and see the extraordinary work they have been across all forms of poetry. They are truly an innovative festival. SO excited to be part of it, in the online screening, with an interview with festival director Javier Robledo. He asks some challenging and exciting questions, and there are numerous artists featured, so take a look. There is also an insightful video presentation by Charles Olsen with a selection of the Spanish and Portuguese video poets who were featured in his chapter in the book. Our presentations follow each other together so take a look. They are available at the festival online site until December 3rd. Spanning 25 years this festival is truly a legendary event, with a multitude of different approaches to poetry and fim/video. THIS IS AN EVENT TO REMEMBER. There will be programs of Videopoetry, Poetic Video Perfomance, Poetic Animation, Poetic Sound, VideoDance, Video Art and Poetic Medium-length Films that bring together137 videos by artists from around the world. In addition, there will be a video interview with Javier Robledo on the book The Poetics of Poetry Film with Sarah Tremlett, director of the Liberated Words Festival in the United Kingdom, and a separate presentation by Charles Olsen with Spanish and Portuguese videopoets who were featured in his chapter in the book. Instants Video Video Art Festival of France, Magmart Video Art Festival of Italy, Waley Gallery Art Galey from Taiwan, ÁREA Association of Audiovisual Experimental Filmmakers, the presentation of the Decolonial Constellations Series in Art-Action # 2 of the space Peras de Olmo –Ars Continua, and as a guest Tom Konyves, a reference in Videopoetry, from Canada will present Hopscotch, the analysis of a videopoem.

REALLY looking forward to being in conversation with Dr Christian Patch (Christian O. Pacheco-Cámara) on the making of The Poetics of Poetry Film. We share some exciting ideas and concepts, discussing particularly the role of the voice in poetry film today. And apart from this just take a look at the extraordinarily rich programme, with 11 screenings on their website https://www.fotogeniafilmfestival.org/ and also check out the online films, and also on Facebook live https://www.facebook.com/FestivalFotogenia/ I happen to know a bit about the final selection for the WINNING FILM as I was invited to be one of the JUDGES, but at this moment I don't know who has won! Each year, in all the festivals I am stunned by the extraordinary uses of storytelling, the structural innovations in terms of the screen as canvas, the imaginations running wild and yet with such depth of control. I am also VERY HAPPY to be in the festival with Caleb Parkin's visceral ecopoem I SWALLOW, which is in the first screening on Wednesday, starting at 12 pm Mexico time. SO PROUD to be part of this event. :)
So pleased that Firewash has been accepted in ZEBRA this year in the GAZING NATURE section on Friday 26th evening. It is a special event for me as it is my own poem and film (Solstice Sol Invictus was half my poem), and the poem itself was published in Earth Lines recently by The Edinburgh Geological Society. This is the third film from my poetry film family history project TREE. I am currently working on the fourth film and a pamphlet of the poems so far. Please take a look at the website https://www.edinburghgeolsoc.org/earth-lines/ where you can see a collection of audiovisual works and poetry films adapted from poems in the book, or by authors in the book. It is a fascinating collection.
Click here to A big thank you to the judges at Fotogenia, Mexico City and Absurdah (Absurd Art House Film Festival) for selecting the poetry film of Caleb Parkin’s visceral ecopoem i swallow in their screenings. Fotogenia will be online from the 24th to the 27th of November. Absurdah will be screening in Sheerness! on Saturday 23rd, at the restored Criterion Music Hall, Blue Town, (once termed the Palace of Varieties) so if you are in London or anywhere near the Isle of Sheppey it will be a really memorable experience.
TOTALLY OVER THE MOON that Selfie with Marilyn has won FIRST PRIZE (in Spanish) in Maldito Video Poetry Festival, Albacete, Spain!! A big thanks to the wonderful poet Heidi Seaborn and the shining lights Hatti Rees (Marilyn) and Georgie Rees (stills).
The film was initially a commission from the New York-based Visible Poetry Project, and is from the poem in the prize-winning collection An Insomniac's Slumber Party with Marilyn Monroe (PANK books, 2021) by leading US poet Heidi Seaborn. I recommend the book to anyone for an extraordinarily eloquent, nuanced and poignant read. The poetry film (with British artist Hatti Rees playing Marilyn) is about representation, learning the lines of a poem / script and how we assume a persona, even/especially Marilyn, when she must have longed to just 'be herself'. In the poem a Marilyn who has been around the block a few times talks to her younger self, whilst revealing small, human incidents that she holds close. It is also about the screen image itself, and how repeating the same triple image can create a different screen in terms of identity, meaning and rhythms. The films were screened on site, on October 6 at 8:30 p.m. at the Teatro Circo de Albacete (Spain). They will also be available online on their channel – the FILMIN platform – from October 7, where you will also be able to see part of the programming prepared for this edition. The finalist works will remain continuously on FILMIN, along with the finalist works from past editions that are already on the platform. A professional jury was in charge of choosing the 1st. prize, 2nd prize and 3rd. prize. The Special Public Prize on October 6 was voted by the participant audience. For anyone new to my site please go to Liberated Words where this longer article includes more on the making of the film. http://liberatedwords.com/2020/10/27/selfie-with-marilyn-in-zebra-2020-representation-who-makes-the-image/ Poetry + Films from Art Prize
